I remember the first time I ever saw StarKid. It was 2009, I was at my friend’s house, and knowing I was a Potterhead she decided to show me a “hilarious Harry Potter musical.” So, I just sat on the couch with her and watched it. I ended up giving up on AVPM towards the beginning, but then i was convinced to watch the rest of it the next week. Once I did, I was in love. And because of that I found the most amazing fandom in the world. I’ve met so many great people through this fandom and I’m so happy that I’ve been here to see it grow, I was here when Darren joined glee and we had to deal with sharing our Harry and welcoming a huge new wave of fans. I was there to see everyone’s crying tweets when we found out he’d be on Broadway.
We’ve seen the team grow from a little musical they did in 2009 to any internet-and musical-loving person’s favorite group of hot theater nerds. We’ve seen them create more shows, we’ve seen them go on two tours. Some of us have seen them live, and some of us wish that someday we will. It doesn’t matter how many times you see them, how many times you listen to their songs, or how much merch you own, we’re all StarKids. And I think we can all agree that we’re extremely proud of our Dikrats, and we’ll stick with them through everything. Now, our family of a fandom is bigger than ever, and even more emotional.
AVPSY was the end of the Very Potters, and I know I cried. Team StarKid went back to place where their story began, and they won’t be going back to Hogwarts again. But we all have to turn those tears into happy ones, because the magic never really dies. We still have the shows to watch countless times all night, we still have the music to listen to all day, and we still have our role models being flawless as ever. And I know for a fact they’ll always be there to make us smile. StarKid gets me through everything, StarKid gets us through everything. Right now, I’ll try not to cry to much. No one needs to say goodbye. So don’t let the muggles get you down, because StarKid, like Hogwarts, will always be there to welcome you home. It’s been totally awesome, AVPM.
We did something like this last year, and here we are again!!
As you know, Lauren is awesome. She deserves a gift from her Street Team for her birthday! We are planning to make her a book of letters, pictures, etc. from her wonderful fans. The book will be sent to her so she will have it for her birthday (March 8th) If you feel like you’d be interesting in being a part of it, you can:
- write a letter (kind of like a fan letter or birthday card type thing)
- pick a favorite picture of her
- make her something awesome that could be attached to a page of the book
- all of the above, or anything else you can think of!
